Winter Solstice

Published on 1 December 2024 at 09:41

The winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, occurs on 21 December in the UK this year. After the solstice, the days will become longer.

Many people celebrate yule on the solstice and many of yule’s traditions have been incorporated into Christmas — in some languages the word for Christmas comes directly from the word for yule. For some, the winter solstice is a celebration of the rebirth of a sun deity.

Traditionally, yule was celebrated with feasts. Bonfires were lit either as a protection to ward off evil or as means to encourage the sun to return.

I’ll be hosting a family feast to celebrate this year. I’m also selling my money spells for half price for the whole month of December as Christmas can be such a financially challenging time. If you want your spell to arrive in time for the solstice, be sure to order soon!

I’d love to hear your plans for the winter solstice.
